WANTED: Tent Rental Co. Recommendations for Pennsic

topic posted Sun, March 2, 2008 - 11:10 AM by  Robin
Hi! Long-time lurker here . . .

For the past 5 years or so I've been renting a tent for Pennsic, first with Grimms, then with Classic Tents. I'm just not good at putting up a tent myself and would rather not totally rely on others to do it for me as wonderful and kind as others have been in the past. I like the idea of someone else putting them up and, especially, taking them down afterward.

Last year, I was OK with the tent from Classic (the year before they were better) but the people in charge of my encampment said they were difficult to deal with.

Has anyone out there had good experiences with Classic or other tent rental companiess (sizes 10 x 10 or 12 x 12).

Thanks so much for any suggestions or recommendations!

  • It was not so much Classic Tents that was the problem most likely. It was the Pennsic staff. They absolutely refused to have third party vendors on site during the first weekend. They do not want 5 or 6 extra vehicles on site during that weekend. Not to mention the workers. Who knows one of them may give up his job just for free entry into Pennsic. Classic tents was given such a hard time by our volunteer self important staff, that he may welcome no orders from us. I had a hard time getting things in synch with classic as well this year. I have used them for years. They were always cheaper then Grimm's and they would get onto site before anyone else. Want the tent set up Landgrab Saturday at 3 pm? No problems. Well until this year. What it really was our Pennsic staff was refusing to let them onto site. I know it was us, as I got the number from Classic's owner, as here you talk to this lady, she won't let me do anything. Sure enough after a number of conversations with her. I find that Classic had tried 3 times to set up my tent, but was turned away at the gate. I did convince him to come out, and call me, and I got him inside myself. It seems after discussing all the excuses I got fed by our vendor liaison or whatever her damn title was, it comes down to this. They want to hand hold the tent vendors, but were to busy doing other things to do this. It seems they had found other things to do instead. I originally was giving the guys from Classic a huge ration of shit for not showing up on agreed time. Finally after going up the food chain. I found out it was the SCA, and the SCA admitted as such. Usually I have great respect for our volunteers, but in this case i was sadly disappointed by our lack of quality. You may want to look farther into everything before you dump classic. You also might want to find out if your next tent company is going to have the same problems.
