There haven't been any movies to emulate yet this year. I say we return to our roots and have a "Holy Grail" themed party.

Hate to say it, but MPATHG (1975) is way after the origin of the SCA, not to mention Pennsic.

Now, "Vikings" (1958) or "Ivanhoe" (1952) would be good themes under that criteria.

How about a hoighty-toighty laurel party?

that way we can trick them all into one place at one time, and run around in fairy outfits!!!
Well . . . .I thought it would be funny

Might as well play "Pin the Tail on the Tuchux"

                    or

                    "Come as your own hostage"

how about a "bring your own hostage" party? there are folks interesting enough to want to be traded around. if a hostage is traded unwillingly, they get compensated in some way (beer, chocolate)? if you don't bring a hostage, you don't get in.
another way to play this would be as a fund-raiser, in the manner of a slave auction. but that's been done so many times, it's more fun to call it "bring your own hostage" -and ugly people look better by torch/beer light.

i believe loincloth counts as "men without pants..." doesn't it? and as your friend mentions, there are many people we just don't want to see in loincloths. (see, for example, The Classic)

I tried to talk our camp into hosting a king of the gypsies party. Anyone who wished to compete to be king or queen of the gypsies would bring wine, food, and or entertainment to share with all the other guests. We'd then reward the most generous contestant the title until the following year.
I also thought a carnival procession around Pennsic at dusk would be fun. Various camps could make floats which they would pull or carry. We'd eventually wend our way back to camp and the party would begin in earnest. Basically the biggest most ornate amoeba you have ever seen.

I know that Monty Python doesn't pre-date Pennsic or the SCA. However, I think that it's close enough to Pennsic I (1972) to be from the same era, and it does pre-date the current incarnation of Pennsic at Cooper's Lake, (Pennsic VI).

I think it would be a blast either way.

Besides, it's probably more historically accurate than "Vikings".

(Before you even say it, I know that MPATHG is loosely based on the Aurthur "legend" and so isn't historical at all)

        "And there was much rejoicing"

So was MPATHG derivative of Pennsic, since it came after? (Some say "Knightriders" - 1981 was about SCA {and the MSR spinoff}, but when asked, the director (G. Romero) said it was not.)

That would make Bravefart derivative (especially since everything but the story line has been exposed as bunk) and others as well.

Still, I love a good story.

Maybe what we need is a "Predict the next Legendary Plotline or Story" party?

(The "I'm so BLONDE!" parties are SOOOO-uninspiring these days. Anybody can get loaded. Can you do it with unforgettable style and elagance? "You're so drunk that I LOOK GOOD?")

Clearly, the old tale of the true "King of the Gypsies" is unknown to you...

It all began when the elders of the town found a Gypsy camp on the road right outside of town. "You must leave!" they commanded...

        That's how it all began.

(Besides that, everybody knows that Gypsies don't float. They're landless landsmen, the original "hydromatic mountaineers", just shiftless hillbillies.)
