The rumors are flying around the internets this week; the Fisher Dairy is no longer and that means no more chocolate milk. A sad day for all afficianados. Hopefully a suitable replacement can be found.

Re: A Requiem for The Chocolate Milk
Thu, May 22, 2008 - 8:07 PMNote: I so don't care if it was tainted. I think we should start a protest so that Cooper's can at least sell it to people 18 plus who don't mind signing their health away for some Crack!

Fri, May 23, 2008 - 4:55 AMOh no ... I was thinking of that chocolate milk this week ... almost bought a poor substitute in the grocery store because I missed it so much.

Re: A Requiem for The Chocolate Milk
Fri, May 23, 2008 - 9:33 AMAlthough I haven't made it to Pennsic in 10 years now, the last time I was there I lived on that stuff and Tiger Energy Bars. It was heavenly.

Re: A Requiem for The Chocolate Milk
Fri, May 23, 2008 - 1:43 PMVery Sad! I read the attached link that said there was raw milk used...well that's probably what made it soooo good. The lack of the the processing taking all the creamy goodness out of it. All other chocy moos are like drinking chocolate flavored water.
Pennsic Crack RIP, we will miss you... *tear, sniff*

Re: A Requiem for The Chocolate Milk
Thu, May 29, 2008 - 6:17 AMHmm, according to the Reuters article posted in the other forum:
"Symptoms of Listeriosis are fever, muscle aches, and sometimes gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea or diarrhea. If infection spreads to the nervous system, symptoms such as headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance or convulsions can occur. "
Aren't those symptoms of just being at Pennsic, period? Heh.
But.... this is the end of a era... a passing of a memory... the grand finale... at least until we find someone else who makes delicious chocolate milk!
Ugh, this announcement and the McD's opening up announcement... Reality, as much as you try I'm still going to pre-reg! -

Re: A Requiem for The Chocolate Milk
Sat, May 31, 2008 - 11:01 PMTrust me... it isn't the McDonald's that's going to be bothering everyone so much as the Pilot station's quad floodlight that towers above the golden arches. Camped in full sight of it at War Practice and it is bright. Very bright. Not bright enough to say, hurt your eyes or notice it when you are in your tent but it is definitely something that cannot be missed any more than the moon can. Hopefully the foliage will have grown in enough by the end of July to shield most of it's *a-hem* "brilliance" From the looks of it, the Micky D's sign will probably be at least mostly obscured. IIt was partially covered even at WP (when viewed from the lake, anyway.) It's the "truckstop special" I'm worried mostly about.
I was wondering if there is any official request or idea for such a request to have the light towers shut off or at least dimmed after X-o'clock. I doubt the latter is possible short of draping something... i imagine parking lot lights don't typically come with dimmer settings. Anyway, for my eyes at least I think the glowing presence over the hill is more than a little distracting and disheartening. I suppose if I'm going to be TOTALLY honest about it though, it isn't as though we don't have a constant flow of electric lights everywhere already. As annoying as the new additions to the horizon are, it probably won't be as intrusive and bothersome as the continuous presence of motorized vehicles on site so perhaps I shouldn't get to sore about it. *shrug* I guess it would be hard to take a request to shut down the lights seriously when we allow them everywhere AT Pennsic. -

Re: A Requiem for The Chocolate Milk
Sun, June 1, 2008 - 5:17 AMpoke around on Tribes & LJ - someone is organizing a letter-writing campaign directly to that station requesting that they dim/turn off the lights overnight... I'll see if I can find you the link, but IIRC the intent is to keep it exceedingly polite and brief, with an emphasis on the "historical atmosphere"
I'm pretty sure it was either the "SCA" or SCA_East" LJ community. -

Re: A Requiem for The Chocolate Milk
Mon, June 2, 2008 - 7:05 AMSicne we've been living with the "great north star" up in the parking lots on the hill on the "Ghetti' it's only fair to us that you folks down around the lake get your own southern constellation to illuminate your night sky. I understand that the Security lights are for in the parking lots. Saddenned that they are required but understanding. In the instance of the "McGrail Beacons" however it's simply marketting and location that sucks.
in the end I doubt there is really much that can be done or should be done. -

Re: A Requiem for The Chocolate Milk
Mon, June 2, 2008 - 8:15 AMHow did we go from the trivial chocolate milk sulk to the even more trivial golden arch beacon? It is not a secluded camp ground in the middle of no where and theings get developed and people loose their businesses when they break the law. Boo hoo hoo. There are much mor important things in the world to complain about. These threads have spanned several tribes and in a couple turned light harted and humourous. Go to war and enjoy what you have and let go of the things you can't change.
Besides, chocolate milk sucks anyway. -
